McCaffrey and Cable Consultants Ltd. (MaCC) recently collaborated with the Department of Conservation (DOC) to deliver a practical and cost-effective landslip repair along the scenic Kauaeranga Road near Thames. The project targeted a 15m long, narrow section of the road where an 8-meter-high landslip was risking road stability.
Faced with the challenge of balancing budget and safety, MaCC designed an embankment repair that was fortified with riprap to withstand river scour and flood conditions. This approach replaced higher-cost alternatives, meeting DOC’s need for a functional, durable solution. The structure was designed to reuse locally sourced materials, an environmentally conscious choice that kept costs in check while aligning with DOC’s sustainability goals. This solution not only provided enhanced road stability but also ensured a reduced environmental footprint.
