Waikato Roading Resilience- Landslip Remediation Program

MaCC assisted Waikato District Council with geotechnical investigation and design services for a series of landslip and dropout sites across the western Waikato road network across the Waikato region.

The ongoing program addresses a range of geotechnical challenges, including road edge failures, embankment instability and slope movement affecting the resilience of key rural transport routes. MaCC undertook site inspections, geotechnical investigations, survey coordination, slope stability assessments and engineering analysis to identify failure mechanisms and develop practical, cost-effective remediation solutions.

Services include concept, preliminary and detailed design, together with the preparation of specifications, schedules of quantities and construction documentation. By prioritizing sites based on risk and complexity, the program has enabled critical repairs to be progressed efficiently while maintaining a consistent and practical design approach across multiple locations.

In-house Drone capability was used for access to difficult sites minimising safety risks and obtaining high quality data capture.

The team worked closely with Council to understand resilience objectives whilst being mindful of budget constraints.   The outcome has resulted in an increase in safety, reliability and long-term resilience of the Waikato District’s rural road network, reducing the risk of future disruptions and maintaining access for local communities.
